Holistic Treatments

In today’s prevailing medical approach, patients are generally prescribed medications to alleviate their current ailments, prevent life-threatening conditions from occurring, and, in other words, manage their illnesses. Medications often achieve this… but nothing more! The expectation that medications will halt the progression of my illness, or even cause it to regress, is incorrect. This is because medications are not designed to address the underlying biological causes of the illness. They aim not to restore imbalances and problematic bodily functions, but rather to halt specific physiological functions and thereby alleviate my discomfort. Take a look at the medicine bottles you keep at home. You’ll see that most of them are labeled with one of the words “inhibitor,” “suppressor,” “blocker,” or “antagonist.” In other words, almost all medications are designed to inhibit, suppress, stop, or oppose a function at some point in the metabolism.

However, this shouldn’t be interpreted as saying that medications should never be used, that they are poisoning us, or that everyone should stop taking them immediately. The truth is this: Except in rare cases, medications do not stop the progression of the disease or reverse it; they only provide temporary relief. Our goal with Holistic Medicine, also known as Functional Medicine, is to alleviate the disease itself. In Holistic Medicine, the patient’s body is considered as a whole. It helps the patient understand their entire body and the factors that contribute to their illness (genetic factors, environmental conditions, lifestyle and habits, etc.). In our program, a personalized 4-6 month program is developed. We implement an Elimination and Restoration Diet for the first month and a half, and if necessary, we may ask the patient to make changes to their habits and daily routine during this period. Therefore, the patient’s commitment and compliance during this process are key. Our goal is to help the patient use less medication but become more energetic, more peaceful, and more productive individuals. Holistic Medicine is definitely not about emergencies. In emergencies, conventional medical methods are already accurate and effective. Holistic Medicine focuses on chronic diseases. However, we strongly discourage individuals with chronic illnesses from interrupting their communication with their treating physicians. Rather, we prefer to maintain close communication with their specialists and work collaboratively through the treatment process. The role of a holistic approach here is to coordinate the treatment of chronic issues across multiple branches of the patient’s body and strive for simultaneous healing.
